The United Nations has called for an urgent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into an Israeli airstrike that hit the northern Lebanese village of Aito, reportedly killing 22 people. Among the victims were 12 women and two children, according to Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Laurence emphasized that the incident raises serious concerns about potential violations of international law, specifically regarding the principles of distinction and proportionality in warfare. The UN stressed the need for a thorough inquiry to determine whether the laws of war were breached in this tragic incident.
