Prince Harry has finally broken his silence on the swirling rumors that he and Meghan Markle are heading for a split. The gossip mill has been churning lately, especially since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been attending events separately. But Harry, true to form, handled the speculation with humor and grace.
“Apparently, we’ve moved house 10 or 12 times,” joked Harry, 40, during the *New York Times DealBook Summit* on December 4 in NYC. “Apparently, we’ve also been divorced about 10 or 12 times. So, what’s next?”
During the interview, host Andrew Ross Sorkin couldn’t resist asking Harry about the public obsession with his marriage. “Why are you doing events separately? Why not together?” Sorkin asked. Harry’s quick-witted reply? “You invited me! Shouldn’t you have known?”
Sorkin acknowledged the point with a laugh but pressed further. “When an article pops up saying Meghan is in California, and you’re in New York, people start asking, ‘What’s going on?’ Does all this speculation bother you?”
Harry responded with a mix of humor and sincerity: “It’s hard to keep up with the rumors, so we just ignore them. Honestly, I feel bad for the trolls. They build up so much hope—‘Yes! Yes! It’s happening!’—and then, nothing. I truly feel sorry for them.”
He went on to express his love for the life he’s built in the U.S., sharing, “Living here and raising my kids is something I never imagined, but it’s the life my mother would have wanted for me.” Harry emphasized that his main focus is being the best husband and father he can be, grounded in the values he developed during his 10 years in the military. “As the world changes, it’s harder to stick to your values, but that’s what I want to be remembered for.”
Of course, Harry also touched on the lingering security issues he and Meghan have faced since stepping back from royal duties. After losing access to police protection in the UK, Harry filed a lawsuit to regain it, a case that remains ongoing. Reflecting on the situation, Harry admitted, “I should never have lost security in the first place. The disclosure process has been unsettling, but now I just have to wait for April.”
And what about the divorce rumors? Harry shrugged them off, suggesting that they’re just another invention of online trolls. “Honestly, it’s a bit ridiculous,” he said, with a hint of a smile.
So, while the trolls might dream of drama in the Sussex household, Harry seems to be focused on what matters most—his family, his values, and, of course, proving the naysayers wrong.
