Syria’s al-Sharaa Says No Deal With Israel Until IDF Withdraws From Territory It Took After Assad’s Fall

Here are Tuesday’s key updates on Israel, Gaza and the West Bank:

■ Thousands of Israelis attended the funeral procession for Hadar Goldin, an Israeli soldier whose body was held in Gaza for over 11 years and returned on Sunday as part of the Israel-Hamas cease-fire deal.

■ The Israeli army announced that it killed a “terrorist” who it alleged crossed the Yellow Line delineating the Israeli-controlled territory in Gaza, saying he approached Israeli soldiers and posed an “immediate threat” to them.

■ The United States is considering establishing residential compounds for displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on the Israeli-controlled part of the Yellow Line, The Atlantic reported.

■ The IDF announced that, hours after the body of IDF soldier Hadar Goldin was returned to Israel, it destroyed the tunnel shaft from which he was abducted during Israel’s 2014 war in Gaza.

■ Yemen’s Houthi rebels signalled in a letter to Hamas that they’ve stopped their attacks against Israel and shipping in the Red Sea as a shaky cease-fire holds in the Gaza Strip.

■ Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran does not seek nuclear bombs and that Tehran wants to reach a “peaceful nuclear agreement,” but will not compromise on national security.
