NepalIsrael.com Jerusalem, Israel – A solemn memorial event took place in Jerusalem, Israel in October 9, 2024, honoring foreign nationals who lost their lives or were abducted during the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023. Organized by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ceremony drew over 200 foreign diplomats, including the U.S. Ambassador and representatives from numerous embassies in Israel.
The Chief of Protocol for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Gil Haskel, addressed the attendees, reflecting on the devastating attacks by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of many foreign nationals and Israeli citizens. Among the victims, 10 Nepali citizens and 2 Tanzanians were confirmed killed, while 101 hostages, including Nepali student Bipin Joshi, remain in captivity in Gaza.
As part of the memorial, diplomats from Thailand, Nepal, and Tanzania participated in a candle-lighting and wreath-laying ceremony. The Ambassador of Thailand lit a candle to commemorate the Thai nationals who perished, while Tanzania’s Ambassador and Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Kumar Bahadur Shrestha, laid a wreath in memory of their respective citizens and others who were killed in the attack.
The event also included a 30-minute screening of a recently produced ‘Docu-Drama,’ followed by a brief panel discussion, highlighting the impact of the tragedy on the international community.
The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the global reach of the October 2023 attack, which continues to reverberate as efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages persist.
