Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the brutal October 7 massacre that left over 1,200 dead and saw 250 people taken hostage, has reportedly been killed by the IDF during an operation in the Gaza Strip. His death, confirmed by multiple sources close to the matter, marks a significant blow to Hamas leadership.
The IDF and Shin Bet announced that three terrorists were eliminated in the strike, and they are investigating whether one of them is Sinwar. DNA tests are currently underway, and although the identity is not yet fully confirmed, security officials believe Sinwar was indeed among those killed.
Sinwar, who had been hiding in Hamas tunnels and using hostages as human shields, was notorious for orchestrating the October 7 attacks. IDF reports suggest that after executing several hostages, including six held in Rafah, Sinwar began moving without using hostages as shields, leading to his vulnerability.
This operation is part of a broader effort by Israel to dismantle Hamas leadership. Several key figures, including Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif and political head Ismail Haniyeh, have already been eliminated in recent months. Sinwar’s death, if confirmed, would be a major victory for the IDF in its ongoing efforts to weaken Hamas.
