Daily Update (March 22): Iranian Attacks Against Israel During Operation “Lion’s Roar”

On March 22, 8 Iranian attack waves against Israel were identified, carried out using ballistic missiles. This represents a decrease in the scope of attacks compared to previous days, while still maintaining ongoing activity within the broader pattern of sustained attacks. Geographically, the attacks were distributed across several regions: 4 attack waves (50%) targeted the Tel Aviv area, 3 waves (37.5%) targeted southern Israel, and 1 wave (12.5%) targeted the Jerusalem area. As on previous days, there remains a focus on central Israel, alongside complementary targeting of the south. Cluster warhead missiles were launched toward the Tel Aviv area. These warheads disperse into multiple submunitions mid-air, striking several locations simultaneously. The use of such weapons significantly expands the impact area and increases the risk to civilians, particularly in densely populated urban environments. As a result of the attacks, civilian areas were hit in the cities of Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Petah Tikva, and Holon. In addition, in recent days, a kindergarten in the city of Rishon LeZion was struck, highlighting the direct impact on civilian spaces and daily life. Since the beginning of the campaign, a total of 337 Iranian attack waves against Israel have been identified. In cumulative geographic distribution, the central region—particularly the Tel Aviv metropolitan area—continues to be the primary target. Impact on the Israeli civilian sphere: Since the start of the war, 18 civilians have been killed, and over 4,713 individuals have been injured to varying degrees due to direct impacts, falling interception debris, and secondary damage. Additionally, approximately 5,000 Israelis have been displaced from their homes due to missile strikes. Most impacts have been recorded in Tel Aviv, Beit Shemesh, Dimona, Arad, and Be’er Sheva, alongside additional locations across the country. Trend analysis indicates that despite daily fluctuations, a relatively stable pace of attacks is being maintained, reflecting a strategy of sustained pressure on the Israeli home front, with a focus on central Israel and the use of weapons designed to maximize the scope of impact.
