Nepalisrael.com, Jerusalem – H.E. Prof. Dhan Prasad Pandit, Ambassador of Nepal to the State of Israel, today presented his “Letter of Credence” to H.E. Mr. Isaac Herzog, President of the State of Israel, during an official ceremony at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.
This marks a significant step in reinforcing the diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Israel, paving the way for deeper cooperation in various fields, including trade, technology, and cultural exchange.
The Ambassador also took the opportunity to raise the concerning issue of Nepalese student Bipin Joshi, who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 from Kibutz Alumim and taken to an undisclosed location in Gaza. The Nepalese government has been in close contact with Israeli authorities and international bodies to explore every possible diplomatic avenue for the safe return of Mr. Joshi.
In his meeting with President Herzog, Ambassador Pandit expressed his deep concern for the well-being of the young student, who has been held hostage in Gaza for over 460 days. The President also conveyed Israel’s sympathy and reiterated his country’s strong commitment to securing the release of all hostages, including Mr. Joshi.
“I am doing everything possible, knocking on every door, and working tirelessly to bring our citizens back home. We continue to hope and pray for a peaceful resolution to this crisis,” said Ambassador Pandit.
Israel is currently engaged in discussions with Hamas through intermediaries in Qatar, with hopes of securing the release of hostages, including eight Thai nationals, one Nepali, and one Tanzanian, as part of a goodwill gesture aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties with their respective countries.
Also present at the meeting was Nepal’s Honorary Consul in Israel, Mr. Nadav Ben Yehuda, an Israeli hero and renowned mountaineer who has saved countless lives in rescue missions worldwide. Tragically, Mr. Yehuda’s brother, Itamar, fell while defending Israeli citizens in Gaza.
President Herzog, in his remarks, reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of all hostages, emphasizing that the welfare of each individual was a top priority. “We share the deep concern for the life of Nepalese student Bipin Joshi, and we hope and pray that we will soon see the safe return of all hostages,” said President Herzog.
In a show of mutual respect and solidarity, both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening the ties between the two countries. Ambassador Pandit emphasized Nepal’s dedication to fostering stronger bilateral relations with Israel, which has long been a trusted partner in several global and regional initiatives.
Both sides expressed optimism that diplomatic efforts would lead to a peaceful resolution and contribute to furthering the positive relationship between Nepal and Israel.
