Democratic party chairman Yair Golan spoke at a memorial rally for Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin: “30 years have passed since those three shots, but their sound has not yet faded. They echo to this day in all the actions of this government, which acts against its own people. In every place where Israeli democracy is trampled. Every time a government incites against its citizens, when patriots are called ‘traitors,’ when protesters who fulfilled their civic responsibility are beaten, when media is silenced, the justice system is crushed and loyal public servants are humiliated. Rabin was a hero of Israel because he was a man of truth who chose time and again to put the good of the people before his political benefit and personal financial gains. Peace is the only way to ensure that young people in Israel will no longer be forced to pay the price of its absence.”
