Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock recently reunited at Beyond Fest to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their hit film Speed alongside the film’s director, Jan de Bont. The reunion was extra special, as it was the first time all three had shared a stage to talk about the 1994 blockbuster that grossed over $350 million worldwide on a modest $30 million budget.
It was a rare public appearance for Bullock, who has kept a low profile following the success of The Lost City and the passing of her partner, Bryan Randall, in August 2023.
During a lively Q&A session, they discussed the behind-the-scenes chemistry between Reeves and Bullock, which helped catapult both into Hollywood stardom. De Bont explained how he knew something magical was happening from their very first interactions. And, of course, the question on everyone’s mind: Speed 3? Bullock joked, “It would be the geriatric version – not very fast!”
Fun tidbits were shared too: Sandra got a bus driver’s license for the movie, though she didn’t actually drive in it. Keanu even helped keep her dress down during an action scene to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. Both stars reminisced about their fondness for Dennis Hopper, the movie’s villain, with Sandra calling him “sweet” despite his intense role.
As for a third Speed movie? Bullock isn’t so sure it’s necessary, and let’s be honest, the first one was a classic! Keanu and Sandra, after 30 years, are still as charming as ever.
