Israeli authorities issue notices for 60 West Bank and Jerusalem structures – Middle East Monitor

Israeli authorities issued stop-work and demolition notices for 60 homes and commercial structures across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on Monday, citing construction without permits.

According to local sources, 20 homes in the town of Tuqu’, south-east of Bethlehem, received stop-work orders. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli municipality distributed demolition notices for more than 40 structures in the town of Anata.

At the same time, Israeli bulldozers demolished an agricultural room in the town of Shuqba, west of Ramallah, also on the grounds that it lacked a permit.

Witnesses said Israeli forces, accompanied by a military bulldozer, entered Shuqba and demolished the structure in the al-Atari area, owned by Nizar Shalash. Authorities claimed it had been built without authorisation.

Adnan Shalash, head of the Shuqba village council, said the village has been subjected to widespread demolitions and continuous demolition orders, raising fears among residents that their homes could be next.

He said 25 homes and structures were demolished in the village in 2025, with a further eight destroyed since the start of 2026. In addition, around 90 homes and structures — most of them inhabited — have received demolition orders.

Shalash noted that most of the village’s land falls within Area C of the West Bank, where Israel retains full control over planning and construction. He added that legal appeals and petitions to human rights bodies have failed to halt the demolitions, succeeding only in delaying some cases.

He cited the example of a three-storey house, reportedly costing four million shekels, which was demolished despite its owners filing a legal challenge three days before the order was carried out.
